DISINTEGRATON (an installation)

Dry

(dehydration as desintegration)

In the 1st room: An invitation to the spectator to contemplate a drop of water while feeling the discomfort form the soundtrack that evokes what it may be like if there was no more water, to induce a mild panic attack, a sensual dehydration. (water as a human necessity should be less commodity and more human right)

6 x 4 foot colour photo on the wall - a close up of a drop of water ready to fall from a tap, precariously hovering over the sink. Spectator can sit in a black leather recliner, a upscale, contemporary version of the 70’s “Lazy boy”.

Photo = traditional historical medium of capturing/constructing a moment in time - of what may one day become “was” - as in one day water may be rationed, or may be an extremely high priced commodity = no more taking water from taps for free.

SOUNDTRACK: Ominous hissing of taps run dry, percussive clanging in pipes increasing/receding/suddenly stopping like an industrial death rattle - laborious wheezing of air trapped in a pipe, reminiscent of suffocation, water through pipes like distant tides, then gone, the last gurgle of water, air being sucked out of pipes, dry, like a life force sucked out, general mood evoked = the final sound of the exhausted guts of an abandoned building in a post-apocalyptic landscape.

In the 2nd room: Wall size image - Video loop of water streaming from a tap.

SOUNDTRACK: water flowing, rushing in a river amidst sounds of wild nature, flowing, remembering the source.
